What is Psychosocial recovery Coaching?

Psychosocial Recovery Coaching is a personalised support service funded by the NDIS, aimed at empowering individuals with psychosocial disabilities to lead fulfilling lives. Unlike support coordinators, recovery coaches specialise in psychosocial recovery, possessing extensive knowledge of mental health and navigating mental health services.

What is Psychosocial Disability?

Psychosocial Disability (PSD) refers to the social effects of a disability caused by mental illness. It can impact your ability to set goals, make plans, participate in education, training, employment, and engage in social and cultural activities.

While psychosocial factors can influence many types of mental illness, some conditions have a more significant long-term psychosocial impact. These include:

  • Schizoid disorders like schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder
  • Anxiety disorders like obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, agoraphobia, and social phobia
  • Mood disorders like major and dysthymic depression, and bipolar disorder

Why Do I Need A Psychosocial Recovery Coach?

Your recovery coach is there to help you navigate your mental health challenges.

Our coaches spend time with you, and people important to you, to get to know you and understand your needs. Operating from a strengths-based perspective, coaches identify and leverage your unique strengths to foster independence and achieve personal goals. By focusing on building resilience and empowering decision-making, Psychosocial Recovery Coaching aims to facilitate holistic recovery and improve overall quality of life.

Here’s what Psychosocial Recovery Coaches can do for you:

  • Establish a collaborative relationship to design, plan, and implement a recovery-focused plan.
  • Coach and support you in enhancing recovery skills and personal capacities such as motivation, resilience, and decision-making.
  • Facilitate increased engagement with the NDIS and coordinate various supports.
  • Assist in managing the complexities of daily life through structured frameworks.
  • Offer flexible service delivery options, including digital and face-to-face coaching based on your preferences.

Coaching sessions may cover a wide range of topics, including:

  • Strategies for managing mental health symptoms
