About the role

Centacare South West NSW is seeking a passionate and dedicated part-time School Wellbeing Practitioner/Social Worker, based in Wagga, to support the mental health and wellbeing of young people.

This opportunity has become available due to an internal promotion within our School Wellbeing team. The role supports education providers in meeting the needs of students, families, and staff through whole-school wellbeing approaches, group work, counselling, and community education. You will also offer consultation and in-service training to school personnel, helping strengthen wellbeing and development across the school community.

Key responsibilities

  • Support students, families, and staff through whole-school wellbeing initiatives.
  • Deliver group work, individual counselling, and family counselling.
  • Provide psycho-educational and therapeutic group programs for parents, students, or small groups.
  • Contribute to community education activities.
  • Offer consultation and in-service training to school personnel.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to enhance wellbeing outcomes.

Essential requirements

  • Degree qualifications in psychology, social work, counselling, or psychotherapy.
  • Demonstrated experience in counselling children, young people, and families.
  • Experience delivering psycho-educational and therapeutic group programs.
  • Understanding of community development principles and/or experience in a community-based setting.
  • Highly developed relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external partners.
  • Compassionate, empathetic approach with a passion for supporting children, adolescents, and families.
  • Understanding of the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged people.
  • Current NSW driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.

Desirable

Experience working within an educational or school-based context.
