From 10 December, Australia will introduce new minimum age restrictions that prevent children under 16 from creating or keeping a social media account.
These changes may feel overwhelming, and it is normal for young people and parents to feel worried or unsure about what the shift means for daily life, friendships and routines.
Families can prepare by exploring:
- What the new rules involve
- How to talk with children about online safety
- Ways to strengthen resilience and emotional wellbeing
- Where to seek extra support
We are also here to help families navigate these changes with calm, confidence and connection.
January sees the return of our free webinars including:
- Modern Parenting in the Digital Age and
- From Survival to Connection along with a range of
- Parent Support program and services.
Check out our calendar for more webinars and courses kicking off in the new year.

High school here we come!
A few helpful areas to explore together include:
- Normalising worries: Let your child know that feeling unsure is a completely natural part of starting something new and many other students feel the same way.
- New routines: Chat about teachers, timetables, lockers, and finding their way around.
- Friendships: Explore how to make new friends while keeping older connections.
- Digital confidence: Discuss being safe, kind, respectful and aware online as social media becomes more present.
- Building new skills: Support them in developing practical skills such as problem-solving, time management, organisation, and self-care.
With reassurance, connection, and plenty of conversation, you can help your child feel ready and even excited for the adventure ahead.
Still unsure?
If your child needs extra reassurance, our What To Do With Worry Workshop these school holidays is a great way to their boost confidence before high school begins.
